Beechwood is a nursing home based just outside Huddersfield, providing support for up to 24 individuals who need complex nursing led care due to a physical or neurological condition. People aged over 18 years old come to live at Beechwood, but we support some individuals who are over 80 years old.
Beechwood is a large Victorian building which has been specifically adapted and extended to enable independent or assisted wheelchair access throughout the home.
We are proud to specialise in supporting people who have varying needs linked to physical or long-term neurological conditions including cerebral palsy, brain injury, stroke, Huntington’s disease, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida and hydrocephalus.
Beechwood uniquely features a Life Skills Room designed to provide the individuals we support here with engaging experiences and help them to learn different skills and maximise their potential. The room features an interactive screen, virtual reality handsets, iPads, Kindles, an Xbox gaming console and immersive lighting.
The full-time support we provide is flexible and designed to help build skills, inspire confidence, and encourage people to live more independently. We work with individuals to develop a person-centred support plan based on their needs, wishes and aspirations.
Our dedicated staff team of Registered Nurses are highly skilled and trained to deliver specialist and complex nursing care and have significant experience with tracheostomy or PEG/NG care. We also focus on supporting the individuals who live at Beechwood with all round health & wellbeing programmes, rehabilitation, community access, enablement & transitioning to more independent accommodation, volunteering & purposeful activities.
We are located close to nearby parks (Greenhead Park is a favourite), nearby to Huddersfield (about 1.5 miles) and we are on a local bus route. We also are near to the M62, Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and nearby to the north Peak District National Park.
With large, accessible gardens, which are maintained by community volunteer groups, during the summer months you can often find the residents and staff enjoying music and BBQ’s in the front garden.
We are proud of our 5* Food Hygiene Award and all our meals are freshly prepared and cooked by our experienced catering team, using pictorial menus and catering for specialised diets where required all which can be enjoyed in our large dining room.
Individuals living at Beechwood benefit from having both an Activities Coordinator who plans activities based on individual’s interests and needs and a Volunteer Coordinator. We have longstanding volunteers who support the service along with young volunteers from Greenhead and Huddersfield New College who bring their own experiences and unique skills to support people living at Beechwood. Our volunteer network support us to plan and hold regular activities and events like coffee mornings, themed evenings, parties, fayres, quiz nights and regular trips out.
We can support individuals at Beechwood on a short term / long term basis and can also accept respite placements for shorter stays.
